Brandon Secrist is a graduate student at Southern Illinois University: Edwardsville working towards his MSW degree and eventually towards an LSCW certification. Prior to attending SIUE Brandon earned his bachelor’s degree from Blackburn College in Carlinville, IL. Brandon has experience working as a part of Crisis intervention team that served the community mental health needs of several counties in central and southern Illinois. Brandon also serves as a Graduate Assistant to the department of Social Work at SIUE helping facilitate the learning of clinical skills with undergraduate students.
Brandon believes in positive psychology and the idea that people are not just ill or broken but are chronically discouraged by the challenges of life. Brandon believes that the clinical relationship is not focused solely on the diagnosing and fixing of problems but also to understanding the relationship between a person and their environment and striving toward a more copasetic balance between the two.
